Why Face Painting Adds Magic to Tet Trung Thu

Mid-Autumn Festival, or Tet Trung Thu, is one of the most beloved family celebrations in Vietnam. Kids carry lanterns, share mooncakes, and watch lion dance performances under the full moon. Adding face painting to your Tet Trung Thu event gives children an extra reason to smile, and gives parents unforgettable photos. For a school festival, a community lantern walk or a company family day, face painting turns ordinary celebrations into interactive, colourful memories.

At Facepainting Việt Nam, we bring festive designs and friendly artists to venues across Ho Chi Minh City, including District 2 and District 7, and to events across Vietnam.

Lantern-Themed Face Painting Designs for Mid-Autumn Festival

Our artists design custom looks inspired by traditional Tet Trung Thu symbols, so every child feels part of the celebration. Popular lantern-themed designs include:

  • Golden full moon with twinkling stars across the cheek
  • Colourful star-shaped or carp-shaped lanterns (lồng đèn)
  • Chú Cuội and the Jade Rabbit sitting under the moon
  • Cá chép (carp) scales in shimmering gold and red
  • Firework swirls and sparkles for older kids and teens

Each design can be adjusted for age and event theme. If a child has sensitive skin, tell us when you enquire: we can't promise any paint suits every child.

Pairing Face Painting with Lion Dance and Lantern Parades

Lion dance (múa lân) and lantern parades are the heart of any Tet Trung Thu event, and face painting pairs naturally with both. Consider setting up a painting station before the lion dance performance so kids can wear their new lantern-themed faces while cheering on the lion and drum team. For lantern parades, painted faces add extra sparkle to the procession and make group photos far more festive.

A simple event flow that works well:

  • Step 1: Welcome and mooncake sharing
  • Step 2: Face painting stations open
  • Step 3: Lantern-making or lantern parade around the venue
  • Step 4: Lion dance performance
  • Step 5: Group photos and closing activities

This order keeps children engaged from arrival to the final drumbeat, and gives our artists enough time to paint each child without long waits.

Planning a Family-Friendly Mid-Autumn Festival Day

A smooth, memorable Tet Trung Thu event needs a bit of planning. A few planning tips for schools, residential communities and companies in Ho Chi Minh City:

  • Estimate the number of children attending so we can bring enough artists
  • Choose an outdoor or well-ventilated indoor space for painting stations
  • Schedule face painting early, before lantern parades or lion dance, so designs are fresh for photos
  • Confirm timing with your lion dance troupe so activities don't overlap
  • Ask about your date early, since dates around Mid-Autumn are popular

Our pricing is simple and transparent: 500,000 VND for 1 hour of painting, 900,000 VND for 2 hours, and longer bookings are negotiable depending on guest numbers and event scale. We happily travel to events in District 2, District 7, and throughout Vietnam.
