Face painting for adults at costume parties

If you would rather book a painter: from 500,000₫ an hour.

Face painting for adults at costume parties is absolutely doable: grown-ups sit down and get painted just like children. Only two things need planning ahead, the design and the timing, especially when a whole friend group or office team wants to join in. This guide is for anyone organising a costume party, among friends or at a company, to choose designs and plan the hours.

Adults can sit and be painted too

Many people assume face painting is only for children. Our photo gallery actually has an Adults section. You can see grown-ups with a grey elephant face, an older woman with pink and white eye decoration, an artist painting a woman at a table, and groups with skull face paint or witch costumes at Halloween. Browse more in the photo gallery.

If you'd rather not have your face painted, ask for a design on the hand instead. That is also a service we offer. A costume party can mix the two: face paint for those who want it, hand paint for those who prefer it.

Half face or around the eyes designs go faster

When a whole group is being painted, a small design goes faster than a full face. Two options worth considering:

  • Half face: a pattern on one side of the face, the other side left bare
  • Around the eyes: a small pattern at the corner of the eye, a few scratch lines or a shape around the eyes

Simple designs tend to be quicker and detailed ones take longer, so the number of faces per hour depends on the design. Match the design to the costume. If you are dressed as a witch, pick purple or black patterns, and if you are a scarecrow, pick a scarecrow design. Choose your design before booking, because it helps the artist work faster and keeps the party from waiting.

Timing when a whole group is painted

To plan the time, use this estimate: each artist paints about 10 to 15 faces an hour, depending on the design. It is only an estimate, not a promise. By that estimate:

  • 10 guests: about 1 hour with 1 artist
  • 20 guests: about 2 hours with 1 artist, or about 1 hour with 2 artists
  • 30 guests: consider more artists, since 1 artist in 2 hours may not reach everyone

Our public prices are 500,000₫ for 1 hour and 900,000₫ for 2 hours. Longer than 2 hours is negotiated separately, and a large event can have up to 5 artists. For a quote with several artists, message us. See the pricing page.

Nobody needs to sit down at the same moment. At a party that lasts a few hours, guests can drop by the table in turns while they chat. For company parties, see corporate face painting, or read how many face painters your event needs.

Tell us first if you have sensitive skin

If you have sensitive skin, say so when booking, and it helps to tell the whole group so anyone who needs to can speak up. We can't promise every colour suits every person. If you already have makeup on, tell the artist before you sit down. After the party, remove the paint gently with mild soap and lukewarm water.

Quick answers about face painting for adults

Can adults get their faces painted? Yes. Adults sit down just like children, and half face or around the eyes designs are usually quicker.

How many people can one artist paint in an hour? By our estimate, about 10 to 15 faces an hour, depending on the design.

What should I prepare for the party? 1 table, 2 chairs, and a shaded spot if you are outdoors. If it rains, we move indoors.
